After unveiling their new Asus MeMO Pad HD 7 tablet back at Computex last month, Asus has now launched the device priced at $149 putting it in direct competition against the Nexus 7 tablet.
The Asus MeMO Pad HD 7 tablet is fitted with a 7 inch screen sporting a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and is powered by a quad-core SoC clocked at 1.2 GHz supported by 1GB of RAM with 16GB of internal storage for apps and files.

What SoC does it have?

Thanks for your question, Angus. The Asus MeMO Pad HD 7 tablet has an MT8125 quad-core CPU with 1GB of RAM and running Android 4.2.

Early Verdict : It takes a fairly decent swipe at the Nexus 7 and, considering its offering of comparable specs at a lower price, has a good chance of getting a KO.

Thanks for the info!

Does anybody know where you can actually buy a Memo HD from? I poked around the web for a while but haven't actually seen it for sale....

Keep poking, nyrsimon. According to Asus, it was supposed to be released Thursday. Today, right. However, except for a few very questionable websites, I don't see it anywhere. And, because of the holiday, information is difficult to obtain. But, tomorrow's another day and we'll keep searching.

Thanks Ed - poking it is.....

Google might not be so happy with its hardware partner Asus now that the Taiwanese firm is selling its respectable MeMo Pad HD 7 tablet for just $99 on Amazon.
The tablet only debuted for $129 in June but it now seems that Asus is attempting to clear inventory.
The MeMo Pad HD 7 has a 7-inch 1280 x 800 resolution display (that’s a pixel density of 216 pixels per inch), a quad-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal memory, a micro SD memory slot and dual-facing cameras (5MP on the back, 1.2MP on the front).
The tablet, which appears to be temporarily out of stock, runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. It is not yet known if the device will upgrade to the new Android 4.3 operating system.

The Asus MeMO Pad HD 7 with 16GB of memory finally found its way onto store shelves countrywide here in Canada over the weekend retailing for $160.Cdn.
