Nook Color running |Honeycomb will not boot from SD

Can anyone help?
I am running Honeycomb Preview v0.4 on my Nook Color.
Sadly (and not clever I know!) it is running from the memory rather than just running from SD card.
Now I would prefer to remove honeycomb and install Gingerbread which I think may have more chance of running smoothly and getting Google play to work etc which seems to be impossible with the preview honeycomb.

So is there any way to override the installation and run from SD or to load something onto the nook color and then wipe the machine?
Or is it just truly bricked? and I should walk away and put it down to experience?

I would like to get to a good stable android install running google play so I have access to apps.

I would appreciate any help.
