Thanks! I shut off Dolby Mobile. I tried recording test videos with voice, and can't hear any difference. The voice is muffled, tinny, sounds terrible (I'd forgotten how bad it is). It's about the same on or off. But I'll try it outdoors, to see if ambient sounds work better.

I have an external iPhone "capsule mic" (which bypasses the noise cancellation?). It records about half as loud as I'd like, though it's a lot better than the internal mic. The A500 "camcorder" app can't record decent sound with video, so I don't bother with that anymore.
