Adroid MID 2.1

Hello can anyone help? I bought an Android MID 2.1 for my daughter for xmas and we had trouble shutting it down last night. This morning when we have turned it on it is coming up with the Welcome page and then the Andriod page but will go no further?? Have had to press the power button and the home button together for a while to turn the device off??? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...Thanks
