Anyone know where to find the best price on an Archos 9?
The Archos 9 has been delayed until January of 2010. This was the email sent out to customers that had preordered the tablet...
"Dear ARCHOS Customer,
Thank you for your pre-order on the ARCHOS 9 pctablet.
The delivery of the new ARCHOS 9 pctablet has been delayed until the first week of January 2010. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and hope that you keep other ARCHOS products in mind as the holidays approach.
If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to call us at 866-489-4718.
Windows 7 Starter Edition wouldnt be our first choice of OS for the Archos 9 PC Tablet after all, it lacks the handwriting functionality youll find in other versions but at least it recognizes the touchscreen. Steve from UMPC Portal decided to load up Chromium OS on his Archos 9 (which we saw unboxed yesterday) but the end result is less than usable: since Chromium doesnt recognize the touchscreen, nor have an on-screen keyboard, youll basically be stuck looking at the login page.
Of course, since you can plug in a USB keyboard and use the optical mouse, there are workaround ways to actually reach the Chromium OS desktop. That doesnt add up to a particularly mobile solution, however; consider this a call to arms for Chromium OS developers to whip up some tablet-friendly features.
