The tablet with the single core Rockchip RK2808 ARM9 CPU is being fraudulently advertised as a dual core 600 MHz by retailers, but is listed as a dual core 600 MHz processor even on the official company web page. The device has been shipping with FCC, CE, and CCC labels in China before the actual FCC filing for the time it has been available.
The firmware is partially compatible on other Rockchip RK2808/RK2808a devices. Upon installation of the Chinaleap M1 firmware on a compatible device, it was immediately clear that the firmware was the same as unpolished Rockchip sdkDemo shipping with the shanzhai Rockchip RK2808a variant, the Apad iRobot. This is to say that the manufacturer has not invested a significant amount of time in polishing the OS. In terms of physical layout, there are two physical buttons in addition to the volume buttons on this device: a single front menu button, and a button labeled 'ESC' (perhaps back, otherwise a home button).
However, the build quality, performance, and battery life seem to best those of the very similar Apad iRobot despite very similar specifications, with wifi battery life at around four hours. A limited assortment of 3G modules are supported via USB hosting, just as in the Apad iRobot.
After all is said and done, this is a low cost sibling of the Archos 7 Home Tablet, perhaps without the gripes of the shanzhai Apad iRobot due to its superior materials and battery life. At the right price, this is a good alternative for the low-end tablet market.
