Hello.

I bought a Coby Kyros mid 7060-16 tablet (in Portugal) and then I discovered it doesn't have google play store. I was hoping it could be installed or the firmware upgraded but I can't see any info about this model in www.cobyusa.com or in www.cobygermany.de (this internet page is offline for days).
I can see model 7065 which looks like 7060 and has google play store.
I don't want a tablet without google play store, so before I return the tablet to the store, can you tell me if google play can be installed in coby kyros mid 7060 (or firmware upgraded to a new version with google play)?
I saw a thread with a dump of 7065 version firmware. Is it compatible with and can be installed on 7060 model? Is it safe? Can a backup be made before installing?

Thank you.
Best Regards.

It's hard to say for sure, my guess they are the same perhaps just different kernel, I have taken mine apart it uses the 7060 board, just guessing but all the 60's are the same as 65's minus google play.

Thank you vampirefo for your answer.
I used your TWRP recovery in external card and made a backup of its firmware just after a factory reset.
Here it is:
http://www.4shared.com/zip/ulAq7ZEi/coby_7060_backup_2013-06-09.html
Will I be able to revert any changes made using rooting and gapps for the 1060 thread?
Is it possible to restore a backup of 7065 in my 7060, making it the same model?

Thank you again.

I am currently running your kernel on my device, Coby scammed the 7060 users on their kernel, it's a dual core 800MHZ while the 7065 is a dual core 1.2GHZ. Seeing I can use your kernel you should be able to use mine, From everything I can see they are the same, besides your tablet's kernel is under powered and doesn't come with play store.

Can I install your 7065 firmware on my 7060 tablet? If yes, how can I do it and will I be able to restore 7060 firmware if it needs warranty?
Thank you.

They look the same so the firmware should work, to restore you would need to restore your backup via twrp, to install you download the 7065 rom I uploaded place it on sdcard and install via twrp, once installed do a factory reset

I don't have your tablet so no way can I guarantee it will work, you assume the risk anything that happens to your tablet is your own doing.

Do you have stock build.prop. I would like to get a copy of it, the one is your rom isn't even for coby 7060, it's modified to list 7065 and 1045.

The files I uploaded are from stock rom. I didn't even had tried rooting.
In settings it displays 1045 model, but it is a 7060 model.
Just mention that my 7060 has 16gb.

the size of internal sdcard doesn't matter, as we don't mess with it.

the size of your system is important

can you adb into your tablet? i need some info

adb shell

busybox df -h

below is the build.prop in your backup.

notice it shows 7065 and 1045 but not 7060, I can't see Coby doing that.

I believe adb is working, because moborobo can detect tablet and installed drivers.
I will try the commands you said tonight when I get home.
Please tell me what is needed.
It would be great if I can get a better firmware.
Thanks again.

The tablet is new with only a few hours of use, so build.prop is the original.
I asked in portuguese forum other owners of coby 7060 to confirm if their tablet also shows 1045 in settings menu.

from everything I can see as long as your system is large enough you should be able to use 7065 firmware and kernel.

later today, I plan on flashing 7060 firmware to my 7065 just to make sure they do work on my end, the kernel for sure works which is really one of the main parts, next is verifying your system size.

below is from my 7065

Code:
root@android:/ # busybox df -h
Filesystem Size Used Available Use% Mounted on
tmpfs 427.1M 80.0K 427.0M 0% /dev

tmpfs 427.1M 0 427.1M 0% /mnt/obb
