Dead ZiiO

I've had it just over 6 months and my ZiiO has decided to break.

This morning instead of turning on, all I got was the ZiiO splash page.
If I tried safe mode, same screen.
If I tried recovery - same screen with recovery.

5 hours later (I left it alone hoping it might magically fix itself)

I get a new screen - firmware error or some such screen (i'll maybe re-edit with specifics)

I load new firmware onto microSD and try recovery mode.
It finds the file fine but stays on Step 1 for way too long (more than an hour)

I've tried again many times and it seems to hang on different steps each time.
I've currently got it to step 6 (our of 6) but it just keeps hanging.

anyway - point of the thread.

1. If you are gonna buy a ZiiO - don't :)
2. Anybody know how to get files from the ZiiO harddrive without a working OS?

I've started the process.
Hopefully it gets sorted.

I've had too much bother with the ZiiO.
Just bough an Asus Transformer to replace it.
Will then use the ZiiO at work.

UPDATE: RMA'ed it with creative.
Good fast process and got a new ZiiO within 15 days.
Working well so far.

The updates on the creative websites are all in .apk. When it is "attempting to locate valid installer", it does not seem to like the file format. I read that we need a update.zip. Do you know where I can find the file? I cannot run the apk using the device since I cannot access the device. It will not let me go pass the "zii powered" boot screen. Were you able to resolve this without having to do a RMA?
