Kept meaning to ask: What is that monster thing you see when booting up?

It looks like it's wearing a penguin beak, so I'm guessing it has something to do with the OS version?

I don't know what it's called, so I haven't been able to find any examples online.

Awesome! Just knowing the little fellas name (and what the heck he is!) is a help!

This is him!

So, you asking this question here was the aim to use that mascot ^^
Linux Torvald ('father' of linux) announced that he wanted a new kernel mascot for the 2.6.29 kernel during a linux conference in Hobart, Tasmania.
This kernel is used in android version 1.6, 2.0 and 2.1.
This mascot was chosen to raise awarenes of the nearly extinct Tasmanian Devil.
