Help Getting Sylvania 7" to recognize Droid ad-hoc

I am still new to the android OS, but I am very tech knowledgeable. I have tried everything to get this tablet to see my ad-hoc wifi from my Motorola Droid. I understand that android os can not natively connect to ad-hoc networks. I have tried to manually replace the wpa-supplicant file on the tablet, but it didn't work.

I have rooted the tablet and the droid. The tablet is running the new updated 2.2 os. My droid is running Steel Droid Gingerbread 2.3.3.

It amazes me that everyone at my work with iphones and ipads can connect to my droid wifi-ap but.

Replacing /system/bin/wpa_supplicant with patched version linked in thread above,

ad-hoc networks appear as regular APs with a (*) prefix.

Note:Using WEP it worked to share an Internet Connection in XP.

do I place this patch on my motorola droid or my tablet? I have tried placing that file manually through root explorer onto my tablet and it wouldnt work.
