HP's new Slate tablets added to its online store

After taking the Android plunge with the Slate 7 earlier this year, HP recently took the wraps off of four more tablets running Google’s mobile operating system and varying screen sizes. We haven’t heard much about the devices since their initial announcement back in September, but today HP quietly added all four units to its online store. The pricing and spec rundown for each of HP’s new Slate tablets looks like this:

• HP Slate7 Plus: Priced at $149.99, the most entry-level tablet of the bunch features a 7-inch 1280×800 display, 1.3GHz quad-core Tegra 3 processor, 5-megapixel rear and 0.3-megapixel front cameras, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage, 4000mAh battery and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
• HP Slate7 Extreme (currently listed as “Out of Stock”): Stepping things up to $199.99 will get you a tablet with a 7-inch 1280×800 screen, 1.8GHz quad-core Tegra 4 chip, 5-megapixel rear camera, 0.3-megapixel front-facing shooter, 1GB RAM, 16GB storage and 4100mAh battery. Like the Slate7 Plus, the Extreme comes preloaded with Android 4.2.2.
• HP Slate8 Pro (shown above): The most expensive Slate of the bunch at $329.99. That extra cash will net buyers some improved specs, though, including an 8-inch 1600×1200 display, 1.8GHz quad-core Tegra 4 processor, 8-megapixel rear camera, 720p HD front-facing shooter, 1GB RAM, 16GB storage and 5680mAh battery. Comes preloaded with Android 4.2.
• HP Slate10 HD: The biggest tablet of the bunch, but not necessarily the most expensive. Features a $299.99 price tag and a 10-inch 1280×800 screen, 1.2GHz dual-core Marvell PXA968 processor, 5-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front cameras, 1GB RAM and 16GB storage. Powered by a combo of a 7000mAh battery and Android 4.2.2.

This new batch of Android tablets from HP looks to offer a nice variety of hardware options, including an entry-level model that’s easy on the wallet and another unit that’s a bit higher-end with a larger display and Tegra 4 chip. There’s no doubt that HP is facing some stiff competition in the tablet space, but for consumers that are fans of the HP brand or place a heavy importance on product pricing, these new Slate tablets could be worth a look.
