Hello everyone! Happy to be here and eager to engage in some conversation with everyone.

OUR SCENARIO
We have developed an app that is being used within Medical offices. We have locked down our device using SureLock (great application), and have enabled the app to only allow our custom app to run. Our app is web based so wifi access is needed whenever a customer is using the device. Our device needs to maintain battery throughout an 8 hour day, as doctors are reluctant to charge the devices throughout the normal workday. Our app is extremely simple, showing just text and submit buttons and only used 2-3 times an hour for 30-120 seconds.

OUR ISSUE
We have tested several sub <$99 tablets including AGPtek, and Idolian. The processor speed and screen clarity means very little to us, it is all about battery life. These units simply don't cut it, they are lasting 2-3 hours on full charge. We are seeking a solution for a device that will run our one app + kiosk mode, while maintaining below normal battery consumption so our devices can maintain an entire day without recharge. We are now using a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 and it is perfect, however this is above our price point. Additionally, this unit has way more bells and whistles that are needed. We have to keep our device cost under $100.

POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS
  1. Custom battery rom
  2. Custom firmware
  3. Custom OS solution

Extremely grateful for any of your advice. If custom roms or firmware are needed, we are actively seeking to bring someone on to help us solve this issue.

Best Regards,
Jellybeans

Yes, made in china is perfectly fine, all of our current devices that we have tested are made in China. The issue is finding one with great battery life, are you familiar with something like this?

Kiosk.
There is no real simple answer to your question. The Samsung Gtab has a battery spec of 7000mah and you say that that works for you, so obviously the first thing to consider in a purchase is that you match something that has a comparable specification. However most specifications are over stated and it is unlike that you will truly get 7000mah out of ANY tablet including the GTab as battery manufacturing and quality varies wildly and this is particularly true of 'no brand' china tabs. Thing thing to bear in mind is what is drawing power from your battery. And to turn off, remove and/or shut down ANYTHING that your app does not require to run. IE If your app requires no connectivity than shut down the internet and BT. Take the screen brightness down to the absolute minimal workable level, remove any apps that launch at start up and basically disable everything that is not a requirement for your app to run. Is the app particularly graphics intensive? Does it need to be? Will the tablet go into sleep mode when not in use? etc. IMHO if you are searching for a way to drive a tablet at full power and resolution with near constant use and complete internet connectivity , you will find it an uphill task, personally i am not aware of any portable device that could meet that mark. I think it would be better to consider the construction of an enclosure that would allow for either AC connection for semi permanent positioning or invest in a secondary extra hi capacity battery that could piggy back the tablet to provide for its power requirements.
