Lines under words

What cause lines to go across my screen under the words? How do I stop this?

Android has an autocorrect function. The lines are because the built-in dictionary doesn't recognize the word. If lines appear under every word, then the built-in dictionary is not present. To the best of my recollection it's not possible to disable this feature.

It doesn't do it all the time so I thought there might be something I could do.
