Locking down a tablet

Hi guys,

Another question for y'alls. My company is looking to give merchants cheap tablets running our application. How can we make it so that merchants cannot do anything but use our app? We do not want them browsing the internet or downloading stuff, since we are actually paying for their internet.

Thanks,

Ace

There are several app locking apps available that can prevent execution of selected apps.

You could just block internet-capable apps, as blocking everything could impede other functions. For instance, even the calander app could be useful as it can keep track of appointments, etc; there's also the calculator. Of course, these are only basic functions but there are quite a few other things that could be useful built-in.

This is unless, of course, you want to keep them solely focused on the app (no frills); and then, of course, blocking everything else could be done.

However, most app locks can be broken somehow - unless the Settings app is blocked, it could be manually killed (although someone would need to know to do this). Auto-restart services can be killed as well, usually.
