New Member, Hi, I Want to Learn About Android

I recently had my HTC desire nicked so I bought a cheap GD IPPO P706 tablet for £30 off eBay. I was wondering if there are ways I could speed it up as it's dead slow even though my Wi-Fi is great. I would also like to learn about apk files, parsing and cool technical stuff about android. Could and should I root this device even though I don't have a PC at home? Id love to get to understand android, I was hoping there could be information, people on here who could help or point me in the right direction anyway and idb most grateful if so. Hi anyway.
