No brightness control

I just received a new epad, zenithink 180. The brightness control does not respond at all. Therefore the screen locks but never dims down or becomes dark. I have tried everything to adjust the brightness but it simply will not respond. I tried to reset it using the reset button but no go. I even tried to flash the firmware 1030 but that did not resolve it either. Funny but I have not seen anyone on the forums with this issue. Can anyone help? With the screen in full brightness the battery dies quickly. Thanks in advance.

just to make sure "settings -> sound & display -> brightness"
mine works correctly

have following:
firmware 20101020
processor: armv6-compatible processor rev 5(v6l)

Nope. Mine does not respond at all. The curser moves from right to left and left to right but there is no change in the screen brightness.
