I don't "think" it will matter which firmware version, as long as you have rooted your tablet, but I've been able to follow this note and using their image on my GenTouch

I believe the image is simply based on the ARM processor. Also, not that it helped or hurt, but I followed the links to update busybox as well.

For those who just "want to make these do things they weren't intended to do"! lol

Ok, so it is reeeeeally slow. But fun to play and learn a bit. The X-windows is slow. The post also points out installing ssh-server as well.
