Although we’ve already seen a few Samsung handsets roll out the KitKat update, Samsung has yet to reveal the full list of devices that will receive the update. This changes today, as the Korean giant has issued a press release highlighting which devices will be making the jump to Android 4.4.2.

Devices scheduled to receive KitKat:Galaxy Note 3
  • Galaxy Note II
  • Galaxy S4
  • Galaxy S4 mini
  • Galaxy S4 Active
  • Galaxy S4 Zoom
  • Galaxy S III
  • Galaxy S III mini
  • Galaxy Mega
  • Galaxy Light
  • Galaxy Note 8.0
  • Galaxy Tab 3
  • Galaxy Note 10.1
  • Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition)
We really didn’t need Samsung to confirm many of these devices, as common sense made it pretty obvious that most newer products would see KitKat. Still, it never hurts to have official confirmation.

So when can you expect your specific Samsung device to get the upgrade? Although Samsung doesn’t detail its exact rollout timeframe, their official press release mentions that some of the updates will begin today and continue throughout the coming months — with availability varying by carrier and product. We imagine the more popular tablets and handsets will see the update first, but when in doubt, you can always go into Settings and manually check to see if an update is waiting for you.

At least owners of these devices can rest easy knowing that they’ll get the chance to sink their teeth into some Samsung-flavored KitKat at some point in the future. My GALAXY S III is slated to upgrade in March/April. Does anyone have a Samsung device listed above that has already received Android 4.4.2?

Thanks for sharing. I'm looking forward to my update. It will bring with it several new goodies, including a Location Menu with toggles for GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile networks, the option to change a device’s default messaging app, upgraded Google apps and a “more intuitive user interface.

  • Phone dialer app: The phone app now includes the ability to look up contacts directly from the dial pad, see and tap frequent contacts, and search corporate directories easily.
  • Focus and exposure: The “touch to focus” option has been enhanced with a new circular on-screen control that can be dragged by your finger around the viewfinder to adjust a photo’s focus and exposure.
  • Gallery app: New photo editing options are now available in the Gallery app including new filter effects, draw on your photos, advanced cropping, and adjustments for color, exposure, contrast and more.

UPDATE

Several users on the
T-Mobile and xda-developers forums are reporting today that the KitKat update is now making its way to the Magenta-flavored GALAXY Note 3.
The update is a hefty one, weighing in at 495.74MB. Once installed, the Galaxy Note 3 will be on Android 4.4.2 and software version KOT49H.N900TUVUCNB4. Neither Samsung nor T-Mobile have posted an official changelog for the update, yet.
It’s nice to be able to cross another device off of the list of Galaxy phones awaiting their update to 4.4.
