Save Photo's on Acer A500

I have the Acer A500 and this my first tablet and Adndroid gadget. All I want to do is save photo's from my camera/memory stick to the tablet and cannot get any information anywhere. I can view the pictures from a USB card reader, I can drag and drop the pictures from my laptop but cannot save them to the tablet. Any ideas before I send it back.

Use a file manager to copy and paste them to the tablet.
