setting up wifi

i bought the MID 7 inch Android 2.2 VIA8650 ePad Tablet for my daughter and cant get the wifi to work with any wireless modem/router. all it says is searching on the wifi page. ive tried it within 2 feet of my wireless router/modem and her mother has tried it in their house also and gets the same results...please help me
