Strange Chinese Apps suddenly appeared

I've had a Ployer Momo 19 HD (my first tablet) for a couple of weeks, and it's been working great until today. I connected to the wifi at a friend's and had to re-enter my Google account details. Immediately after that it started downloading several new apps I don't want, including a Chinese calendar and a Chinese weather application. As well as taking up space and cluttering up the first couple of pages of my widgets, these are putting weird Chinese text in my notification area (or whatever you call the thing that pops up when you click on the time).

I couldn't uninstall these normally. Googling suggested that they were system apps and that I should use ES File Explorer to get rid of them by navigating to system/app. I can find both applications in that directory; they are called wannianli.apk, Soft_ware_Center.apk and zuozuoclender4.0.8.apk. (Googling these names doesn't turn up anything helpful.) When I try to delete them I get a message 'wannianli.apk cannot be deleted' (and similarly for the others).

I'd be very grateful if anyone could tell me
a) why on earth these appeared and
b) how I get rid of them.

Edit: The new apps are listed on the Google Play store...

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tencent.hd.qq
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lgl.calendar
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tencent.qqmusic

thanks!
M.

Ah -- I managed to 'disable' them. But I'm still really perturbed by the way they suddenly popped up. Assuming it's not a virus, presumably some update service on my tablet is configured to use Chinese applications? I would still love to know how to stop this happening again...
