Su binary Update gets as far as gaining root access then fails

Hi , i moved su from sbin to system/bin and files try to update but get no further than gaining root access. have i got su in right place or am i just doing something wrong. Im just going by trial and error. I dont want to ruin my tab. Any answers out there?
