Hi. I am a complete nood regarding the whole tablet scene, only got mine (Samsung Galaxy 10.1) recently. What I would like to know is, with Android being open source, can you install the OS on various platforms? Or is it hardware locked? I got Honeycomb installed on mine, but have read some interesting stuff about the new Icecream Sandwich. Question is, can I install it on my tab? Would I need to hack anything? How does that impact the data I already have installed on the tab?

If you root your tablet, then you can install ICS on it when a ROM with ICS is available for your tablet. Otherwise, you can also wait until Samsung releases an upgrade to ICS for your tablet.

Yeah, i was wondering myself and it looks to me like a device-specyfic-issue. Till now there were two upgrades on my Sony S since ICS has been released, the last one just recently to Honeycomb v. 2.
