I got my new Onda v711, I've followed all the instructions I can find but still cannot see all apps in the Play store. (e.g. Google Skymaps)

What I've done:

Jelly Bean Upgrade:
1. Downloaded the recommended firmware
2. Attempted to flash manually direct from the card, failed then it would not boot :(
3. Found this forum
4. Attempted to use the USB program, the upgrade just would not run, always went to ONDA screen and stopped
5. Copied all files from the v711 resource.zip to the flash cards
6. Borrowed the factory_update_param.aml from another Onda firmware, (i.e. the one which tells the tablet to install upgrade.zip followed by patch.zip, it doesn't come with the v711 firmware)
7. Reboot

Success! :) At the point Jelly Bean boots up in Chinese and is working but with loads of Chinese apps, SD card and internal storage work.

Next step; Root:
1. Downloaded the root package from the "**New** Root and Full Working Play Store and Google Apps/Root-Explorer" thread.
2. format SD card
3. copy root.zip and
factory_update_param.aml to the SD card
4. Reboot

Success! Chinese Apps gone, root explorer working, play store installed.

However, play store cannot see all applications :(

I have tried the following:
1. go to \system\app and run googleplaystore.apk: no change
2. looked for phonesky.apk, it did not exist in \system\app , hmmm!
3. downloaded Phonesky_3.8.17.4-2.apk as linked by Diabolus
4. rename to phonesky.apk and copy to \system\app
5. Reboot: no change, apps still missing from store
6. Attempt to install phonesky.apk with APK Handler: failure, error message:
"an existing package by the same name with a conflicting signature is already installed"

Some apps are still missing from the store, what can I try next?

Do you know if there is any way to spoof a different tablet ID?

n.b. if I go to the Google Skymaps web page directly I can see the page but if I try to download the app it says it is incompatible. I doubt the Amazon store will change that. Could you do me a favour and try that on yours?

1. Backup /system/etc/permissions (just take a copy with ES file explorer)
2. Extract this zip (http://www.slatedroid.com/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&at tach_id=4679)
3. copy the files
android.hardware.location.gps.xml android.hardware.location.xml to /system/etc/permissions
3. Make sure the file permission are rw-r-r (with ES file explorer, long tap then properties)
4. Go to settings->apps and tap Google Play Store
5. Click on Clear data and Clear Cache.
6. Go to Googe Play Services and Clear Data and Cache
7. Go to Google Service Framework and Clear Data and Chace.
6. Reboot tablet
7. Open market and accept license

The link doesn't work.
