Hey

Just got the nook two days ago. Loving it!!!

I've been trying to use both ES file Explorer and File Expert to open and stream networked videos and CBR files.

Every time I try to open a networked file in File Expert it opens the browser, loads a bit and nothing happens.

Is there a way to open networked shares with the proper associated application for that file type?

Thanks!

ES and Astro are the two common apps you can use. Astro and Astro SMB add-on App. You have to map the network.

Try this File Explorer or in the market. After you install it there is a small button on the top left that will let you access any shared libraries on your network. It is amazing, also for PC to NC file transfer try Samba fileshare, also see this thread http://www.androidtablets.net/forum...or-sd-card-over-wifi.html?highlight=nook+wifi

Thanks for the quick response.

I have no issue browsing, accessing and copying files on my pc using apps, i can even play MP3s but i cant play other files like comics and videos. Is there anyway to stream videos and other files to the correct app that can open them?

For example in File Explorer browse to my videos, click on a file and have it open in RockPlayer?

That would really make my day!

IDK anything about CBR's but if the video files are formatted correctly for the NC, and there is an ongoing discussion about that here http://www.androidtablets.net/forum...ert-video-nook-color.html?highlight=handbrake, You can try and use Gmote https://market.android.com/details?id=org.gmote.client.android&feature=search_result (well worth the donation BTW)to stream video. A few of my rips would work, I know it works for audio, even FLAC.

I really haven't had much luck with converting video so I can't help you there but the thread above is a great place to start.

Also I just remembered I used Calibre calibre - E-book management to convert some CBR files into a format my old :mad:Archos:mad: could recognize. Again IDK about streaming, but you can easily load the converted files into something like Aldiko https://market.android.com/details?id=com.aldiko.android&feature=search_result and be all set. Calibre is a really excellent companion to the NC. I highly recommend it.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the tips LocalStain

Just to make it clear I have no issues transferring files to the Nook. I can transfer files to the Nook SD or internal storage without a hitch.

I wanted to know if it was possible to stream videos, mp3s, books that are stored on my PC directly to the nook without transferring them first. Es File Explorer plays networked Mp3's but I can't get other file types that on my PC to open on the Nook without putting them on the SD first.

For example when I try to open a CBR file stored on my network share in the File Expert app the browser opens, loads a bit and nothing else happens. The same occurs when I try to play a networked video. When I transfer that same CBR file to the SD first using File Expert, then open it in the program, it launches in the correct app for that file type everything works fine.

I use Calibre as well for ebook management, good program but kinda bulky.

Gmote looks very intriguing and it may solve some of my issues, but it can only access and play certain types of files.

:)))
