WiFi Direct Won't Connect Tab A

I have just purchased a Samsung TAB A and tried to connect my phone (Note 4) using WiFi direct. Went into WifI on both devices and chose WiFI direct.

Both devices indicate they are searching but they never find anything? They are both on same wifi network. I can connect both to my PC using sidesync 3.0 but not to each other.

Is there another setting, could devices be hidden from each other?

Even stranger with my wife's HTC 8 I can connect to both
