CM9 for Coby 7042

Got everything installed as per the instructions here. Once CM9 finally boots I get to the unlock screen, Android desktop, everything is working. Then it will reboot to the "COBY" splash screen, then the CM boot screen, sometimes it makes it to the unlock screen, but then it starts to reboot endlessly.

This is an MID7042. Didn't have any other problems with any of the other steps.

EDIT: After updating with 7042_boot.zip the problem appears to be fixed. I somehow missed that step from the other thread. I'll post back if it happens again but it looks like it is fixed.

Got a new one now. No settings of any kind will save or persist past a reboot. Every time I reboot the tablet it comes back up with the default settings that the ROM began with. No settings of any kind will save, such as desktop, apps, wifi, etc.

I did finally get everything working and the tablet had been running just fine for a few days now. Unfortunately the tablet "froze" today. When it was rebooted it was giving the "Encryption Unsuccessful" error. I've read a bit on this that suggests that the internal sd card is corrupt perhaps? Is there any way to fix this issue?

I am not sure, I have never seen that error on any of my devices. Seeing I have never see it, I have never fixed it. I cant help with that.

Flash your original bootloader.img and boot.img from your dump. I copied them in the same mvbootloader.zip ( replacing originals ) listed previously with winzip then flashed it through cwm and it fixed my encryption error mishaps. I ended up with multiple encryption errors and resets, after this fix not a single one, its been a week since I fixed it so hopefully it is fixed for good.

Hi, I've flashed your RoM and my tablet really went to speed.

I'm posting since I encountered a deadlock problem so I want to ask for help here.

After flashing the RoM and the touchscreen patch, all went well so I decided to format the internal sdcard, after formatting through the settings screen, it can't be mounted again after that so I'm currently stuck, although /sdcard can be mounted via cwm, I can't access it via ADB, I hope you can help me.

I've done some research and most of the threads I found usually explains how to swap internal and external, my problem is the internal /sdcard cannot be read since it is always reporting "Damaged SDCard" no matter how many times I've reformatted it.

:)

verify the md5sum of the zip file.

this rom has only been tested on ft5x_ts I don't have goodix so no ideal if rom works on goodix or not.

I just downloaded the rom from mediafire and having no problems, this is a list of modules you should have loaded.

anyway verify md5sum, then flash my 7042_oc_mbr.zip from this thread http://www.androidtablets.net/forum...peed-governor-do-you-use-your-3-gen-coby.html

then do wipe factory reset, then install rom again.

I have tried every zip in this thread and some others too, all failed on my mid7042-4. It worked fine When I bought it off amazon used. I wanted gapps on it. So I go about rooting it. Kyros-7042-Root-CWM seemed to work, but I think it was a soft root. In adb I had r/o from sdcard. After a while I read about root explorer and installed that. I was able to drill down to the sdcard and change the permissions, this gave me adb access to /sdcard where I found my cwm backups. I had 2 backups taking up space there and was unable to push large zips because of not enough storage space. I used adb shell to copy both backups to the pc, then removed them from the sdcard. I also "pulled" ./ from the 7042 and saved that to the pc, I don't think everything got copied. I tryed installing all the zips, roms, updates and some others from other forums but always had one of three outcomes. 1) os worked but no touch screen, had to use mouse. 2) blank screen ofter "coby" splash screen. 3) coby logo then android animation that never ended. A few times some gapps installers would install succesfully and put some apps on the 7042 but they would all immediately stop after starting. After every attemp I would restore the cwm backup and it would be back working. After 5 or 6 attempts at gapps (might have been cm9 or another rom that did it) and cwm restore the touch screen stopped working. I have been trying to get it working for a week now, no joy. I tried the mv_bootloader by itself and with cm9. cm9 refuses to make it past the coby splash screen. The mv_bootloader by itself doesn't work either. At this point I don't know what display and or touch models I have. I looked at the lsmod and it does not show 5ftx or goodix loaded, they are there in the modules dir though. Is there a way i can force it to load? Here are some screen shots. Can't find the attatchments button.

Compared to the above my mid7042 is not loading the ft5x ts or goodix ts. is there a way to load it manually or change the bootloader/boot.img/sytem.img so it will load properly.
Note: Also I noticed after restoring the 7042 and using adb shell ls /sdcard command shows there are garbled file names (all kinds of characters, I/O errors, and file or dirctory not found fs errors. I suspect this might be part of the problem.
What i have tried;
7042_v6.0.1.1_recovery
7042_boot
7042_boot1
7042_update
7042_update1
CM9 with mv_bootloader
7042_goodix_support
Coby_Kyros_MID7042-4_restore_factory (couldnt figure out how or where to place these imgs, there's no script file included.)
Kyros-7042-Root-CWM (This rooted and installed CWM 5.5.0.4 and got me soft root which led to hard root)

PS: When I was wandering around with root explorer or adb I remember seeing "gen 3e" somewhere, might help, might not.
Thanks in advabce to anyone who can help me.

I had Clockwork Mod previously installed and the instillation couldn't of gone any easier. Not one issue in that reguard.

Just thought I'd report a couple issues.

1. The DSP Pack seems to be very picky about when it works or what apps it works with. I decided to stick with Player Pro 'cause Apollo just isn't good enough. Anyway, though I'm guessing this is because I had two DSP packs installed, on certain songs, even when the included one was off, there would be these random beep sounds during playback (In Player Pro). So, disabled the included DSP pack, installed the one for Player Pro and everything seems to be peachy keen. Though this isn't your fault, just thought I'd mention it.

2. I just put a pin number lock on my tablet a few minutes ago and it seems to of stopped, but before that, this morning (05/04/13) it kept unlocking itself.

And now, a quick question. Though this isn't an issue, why is there a cellular signal bar and bluetooth capabilities added to this if it doesn't have a built in radio for either one?

Now, for praise! This cm9 build has greatly improved my tablet. Combined with apps like System Tuner and PimpMyRom, it's PERFECT! I even tried installing things that wouldn't display correctly (Misplaced graphic elements or simply wouldn't start up) and they work just fine now! Not to mention improvements with emulators. also a little upgrade to Android (4.0.3 to 4.0.4). Too excited. My first use of Cynagenmod c;.

Back with problems. The beeping now happens over several apps no matter what DSP pack I use to apply sound effects, even the included DSP pack.

These ports are no longer being developed, they are what they are, I no longer have a 7042.

Note to all this rom and 8042 rom both should work on any coby allwinner, but you can't just install either of these roms on any device except for which they are designed for. Every Coby has a different kernel and a different bootloader, so flashing a cm9 7042 on any devices besides a coby 7042 will cause undesirable problems. Same goes for any rom for the coby 8042, those roms are for??? yep a coby 8042.

Can this rom be ported to other coby allwinner devices? Yes, am I going to port them? not likely.

Do not flash this rom on your device unless your device is a 7042. Also note newer coby's are different than older versions, make a backup of your device before installing any rom, so you can go back to stock if this rom doesn't work for you.
