HDMI - Greyed out in settings?

Hi guys,
Whats the trick with getting hdmi to work? Do you just connect and away you go? In settings HDMI nothing seems to change/be available?
TV says "nothing connected to HDMI4"

I got a mini to regular adapter plugged in the cable to my superpad tablet nothing. Tried in on my 15" vizio tv and my 27" RCA and Nothing. What am I doing wrong?
