Is updating su binary important, if so why?

I CANT UPDATE MY SU BINARY. I keep getting message that ihave file su-bin-23.1-signed-zip. And i need to flash in recovery mode, i dont know how to do this & was wondering is it important? What are the benefits? Cant find any helpful info anywhere.
