Micro USB Adapter

Stay away from the official Samsung Micro USB adapter. From the product web page:

[h=4]This Micro USB to USB connection pocket-size device turns your Galaxy Tab into a USB host, allowing you to connect compatible USB accessory devices such as keyboards, mice, thumb drives and more to your Tab.[/h]
However, when the adapter arrived, the manual states is only connects to a USB memory stick and a Samsung laser printer.

Buyer beware!

It should still work with the keyboard and mouse even if the manual doesn't say so. Have you tried it?

I tried it on a USB hard drive, locked it up.

Hard drives are a different story. It depends on the voltage required by the drive's USB.

I did try a mouse - it works, but I see no value to that when I have a touch screen. I only got the adapter so I could watch movies from my Passport without having to copy them.

If you have a PC you should be able to stream from the PC. As far as being portable there are some WiFi media storage devices that would work. Even battery operated.
