un-mount before pulling out USB flash drives?

Does anyone know whether one need to un-mount the USB flash drives before pulling it out (removing it) from the tablet?
I am not able to locate the "un-mount" button or menu so I just pull it out without after use. So far I have not encountered file corruption but maybe someone who are more familiar with Andriod can tell us more.

I looked as well, but nothing. I have mounted and unmounted several times with no issues.

Its very simple just drag down the notification panel and select "USB mass storage connected" under ongoing section. Thats it
