I got my tablet for a week now. Came with the v1 firmware.

It used to crash randomly every 5 to 15 minutes. Everything freeze, and i must force power off, by holding power button.

Can happen with any app.
Kiledl all the chineese bloatware, no change

I tried cache/factory reset, no change.

I updated firware to v4, and it now crash less frequently, maybe once every 30min.

Any hint on what i should do? Is it a defective unit?

Yes defective, most likely kernel panic, return tablet if you can.

Sent from my SPH-D710 using Android Phone

Update : i tried firware v5, but it didn't helped. It still crash every 5 to 15 minutes; while browsing internet, reading pdf, listening music, or just scrolling menus.

See the little vid :

Have you tried SD Card Maker ?
It is a scary looking process .... takes less than 10 minutes. Simplified description, download files and detailed instructional links at v975 com forum ROM and Firmware groups. Many have reported success, from many different forums and groups.
Good luck
