Is there an event log in android? I have version 4.2.2 and have had three instances where my tablet, a rock chip 3168, has shutdown and could only be restarted by using the pinhole reset on the back. The last time it happened, the tablet was sleeping and when I unplugged it a chime sounded and it would not start until I used the pinhole reset. Maybe an event log could give me a clue to what is going on.

Catlog is about as close as you'll get to an event viewer-type app, but it doesn't help with shutdowns like what you describe.
