Help to free me from the Social Feed Reader hell!

From day one, my Sony Tablet S has regularly reported the "Social Feed Reader" needs to close.

I never use this. It won't let me uninstall it as it treats it as a system app.

The other day I got a data traffic monitor, and it reports "Social Feed Reader" is responsible for significant amounts of traffic in both directions.

I have gone into settings and tried to remove permissions for this app, but it won't let me.

I wish software vendors wouldn't assume their apps are so reliable and wonderful that nobody would ever want to disable them.

Can anybody shed any light on how to kill this lemon? I'm also suspicious that it is at least partly responsible for significant battery drain when the tablet is in standby.

TIA

I have ICS on mine. If you click on the app tab on the top right and long click on the app like you are adding it to the desktop and instead drag it over the App Info option at the top it should give you the option to disable the app. You may want to force close, clear cache, and uninstall updates first.
