Help Touch screen

Please help. I have a WM8650 Android 2.2 Kernel 2.6.32.9 Froyo Ver 3.1. It seems to run ok except that the touch screen is either very slow or sometimes does not work at all. Is there anything that I can do to correct this?

Is there a screen protector over it. if so remove it and see if it responds better.

Goto settings scroll down to touch calibration & follow the cross with as light a touch as you can.

Huh? When I did this the screen said "When you click yes button, do not touch screen anymore" No cross seen anywhere. Tried the yes button and screen went back 1 screen! Thank you.
