Samsung just revealed the official launch date and price of their new flagship tablet the Galaxy Note 8.0. The new tablet will be available on April 11th for a steep $399.99. Samsung's press release tries to be reassuring of this high price by pointing out the high-end hardware and the $200 in additional add-ons. Here's a spec & feature list followed by the press release,
    • 1.6GHz Quad Core processor
    • 2GB of RAM
    • Wi-Fi technology with dual-channel bonding
    • 4,600 mAh battery
    • 16GB of internal storage memory
    • MicroSD slots for cards up to 64GB
    • 5-megapixel camera on the back (1080p video)
    • 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera can handle video chats at 720p resolution
    • 50GB of free Dropbox storage for 2 years
    • 1 month free of unlimited music streaming in Samsung’s Music Hub, Samsung’s Smart Remote, Awesome Note
    • $25 Google Play credit with the purchase & register of their device for a limited time
    • S Pen
What do you guys think? Even with the extra add-ons, did Sammy shoot themselves in the foot with poor pricing or will it be worth the premium?

$400 is a little too much for the specs IMHO. I'd expect an AMOLED screen for that price....

I'd actually say that is a really good price. This can't be priced as low as a 7" tablet which there are tons of and can't be much higher in price before bumping heads with the 10" tablets. This is not an introductory tablet but one for somebody who knows exactly what they want. This can be used in a professional, academic, retail, etc. setting where note taking and portability are important. Usually devices in this category can and do get a premium because the fit an exact need. Those with that need will buy them regardless of cost.

When you are Samsung with a phone or tablet in every shape and every size at every price you are bound to have some at a value ratio like this and it makes sense in their lineup.

I just wish the US model would have retained the phone capabilities.

The price is realistic, even fair I would say. It's not like there is any similar product to compare it to although I'm sure the iPad mini will be its main competition. With the Wacom digitizer and Samsungs excellent integration of the technology, which is already a proven success with the Note 10.1 and the Note line of phones, this new tablet will likely attract a loyal following.
I want one, and I have absolutely no reasonable excuse to get one since I already have the Note 10.1.....

Interesting but nothing really new.My next would be a tablet that can double as a vacuum cleaner or as a coffee warmer or as a charger for my car or a tablet thin as a piece of paper that I can fold in 4 and keep in my pocket and once unfolded can be 13 -of 15" ......something new and different and not just in size,a tablet that can do something that my note or my samsung 8.9" can't do.

So I'm not real good with subtlety, you are saying this may not be a game changer? The more I look at it I think I have to agree with you. Still, for someone seriously considering this form factor - 7 to 9 inch tablets - it just may be the best thing on the market. There seem to be two trains of though here, those of us, you and me included given our love for the Note devices we own, who understand that a digitizer layer and Stylus allow creativity in ways a capacitive only device is unable to match. The other believes the Stylus is a dinosaur and there is no need for it in the post Steve Jobs world. The problem here is the vast market for the capacitive Stylus, an attempt to make up for the lack of a digitizer in most modern tablets.

Yes,I wasn't saying the new samsung its not good,I loooooove what I can do with the stylus in my note5.3 .Everybody should own a galaxy note, any size is good! On a second thought, since I miss at times not having the stylus on my samsung8.9,I might get the new note 8" ....the size is perfect! IN order ti create a need for myself of a new tablet, I'll try to convince my brother to dispose of his super old pc, that never works! You could sell your note 10"-Tom.....isn't a little too big?

Well....hmmm, it isn't exactly too big, but the Note 8 would certainly be newer, and I do love me a new toy....
