Unbranded tablet help

Hi there,

I have recently been given a tablet running android which is unbranded. I do not know a lot about tablets and android at all. So what i do know:

Model number: 80461

Android version: 2.2

Kernel version: 2.6.32.9-default

Build number: genereic-eng2.2 froyo ver1.5.3-20110819.102300

That is all i have, everything else about this tabet seems to be unbranded.

My problem is it is painfully slow, i am wondering if there is anything i can do to improve it?

A little more info the processor is a arm926ej-s rev 5.

I have the same unit, it is slow but all I want to do is download apps so my children can play games on it. I tried to Download them through the Wi-Fi, but wants a 3G network and phone number.
Is there a way to Download apps using just Wi-Fi??

Well i can download apps from the android market place. I can also connect to my wifi in the wifi settings. Not really sure why you cant. My one doesnt have 3g capabilities, i dont think.

I already had market place installed. I just need to press the keypad icon in the bottom right, then market place is there!

For wifi i connected through settings>wireless and networks!

Not much help but its all i have!
