Differences between 2.2 and 2.3 OS?

Hello,

I am hoping someone(s) can tell me what the main differences between Froyo and Gingerbread are.
I am looking at the MID8024 and it has the 2.2.
I have a MID7127 with 2.3 currently, but may hand it down to the daughter.
