Downloading to tablet question

I would like to download various things from either BBC Iplayer & ITV Iplayer via my laptop to my tablet (4Gb) and have bought a micro 32Gb memory card to insert in the slot provided. That much I can do, however, I need help with the next step.

Once I have found the item I wish to transfer, how is it done?. I sort of thought I'd need to download an app from the Playstore and it transfer like bluetooth, is this so?

I make no apology for asking, as I am totally new to tablets and didn't ever download anything to my laptop, so in a way, I'm on new ground.

Plug USB Cable just drag and drop/ copy and paste; or use AirDroid (Wifi transfer free app from Play Store)

If the download movie/video you cannot play from the tablet, check out Mobo Player or MX Player free from Play Store.
