Jack Wallen shows you how to easily stop notifications from appearing in your notification bar.

There are certain instances when you simply don't want to know every time an Android app has an update -- for example, each time one of your Facebook friends posts a status or replies to your witty repartee. However, for the life of you, you can't figure out how to stop the constant barrage of updates for that one particular app.

Until now. Turning off those app notifications is actually quite easy -- in fact, it's much easier than you would have thought. In this post, I'll show you exactly how to do it.

Warning: You may slam your palm to your face when you find out just how easy this is to manage. You've been warned.

The first thing you need to do is wait for one of those notifications to come in. When that happens, drag the notification bar down and long-press the offending notification. When the App info button appears (Figure A), tap it.

When the Facebook App info window appears (Figure B), all you have to do is uncheck the Show notifications entry -- and that's it!

Disabling Facebook notifications.
Of course, you don't really have to wait until a notification comes in. You can go into the Application Manager, locate and tap the offending app, and then disable notifications from there. It's just easier to get to from the notification bar.

If you ever decide that you want those pesky notifications back, you can simply reverse the process by tapping the Show notifications again to enable.

Android is a very flexible platform that's ready to show you want you want to see and hide what you don't. Now, you know how to get very specific with what you want to appear in your notification bar. Keep it clean and simple (and stop the constant barrage of notification).

And all this time I've been disabling it in the app settings...
