I called Lenovo but they wouldn't tell me unless I paid $40 for software support. Not nice!
Especially since I have to send my tablet to them for repair and the customer service person said I should backup my apps and data to a Micro SD card before sending it in.

Does anyone know how to do a backup of apps & data to a Micro SD card? There is no mention in the manual.

In settings under backup and restore it says backup will be to Google Servers. What does that mean? And how would I do a restore?

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum

Google's backup doesn't back up a lot. I would suggest iDrive or Carbon from the Play Store. The iDrive does a great job but it backs up only most of the app associated data. It will back up logs and media. When you get it back you log in with the same account ad select restore. The only way to get a 100% backup would be to root first but I wouldn't go there if you're trying to get a warranty repair.
