Problem with new Allwinner A13 7 inch tablet

We've purchased one of these cheaper tablets from Amazon for our son as a christmas present. We've been unable to get any wi-fi connection even when I'm right next to the router. When you turn on the Wi-Fi, nothing happens. It doesn't search for any networks and the main section of the screen constantly says "Turning Wi-Fi on..." On the top right of the screen there are two options, Scan and Add Network. These seem to be greyed out and if you press them nothing happens.

I'm not an expert on technology but I've used wi-fi on my android phone and laptop without any problems. Am I missing something obvious or is this tablet faulty. The link below shows me explaining the issue.

Sometimes factory reset fixes this.

I find the odd A13 I import has a problem with the WiFi. it's a fault on the tablet and you should take it back to Amazon for another.
