Sources within Amazon's supply chain are reporting that the massive online retailer has abandoned its plans for an 8.9-inch kindle fire but instead is working on a 7-inch successor that it hopes to launch later this year. The sources also mentioned that the 10-inch Kindle Fire codenamed: Hollywood is still in the works with its release planned for later this year. No details were given on the device's specifications (camera anyone?) or what prices to expect when they finally launch, but we will keep you updated and let you know if this becomes more than just a rumor.

If so, it will be interesting to see how Amazon's new tablets stack up against the competition. Let us know what you think of this rumor.

10 inch screen better than 8.9" one, imo. Too close to the Fire's 7" one.

But nothing solid in the rumours above regarding the bigger tablet. If Google does bring out a 7" competitor, would be interesting to see Amazon's reaction. ;)

10" Kindle Fire. I'd be all over that. It'd be nice if they were available with data plans as well.

emptyshell - not sure if they would be that attractive, pricing wise. With the 7" Kindle Fire selling for $200, and 10" competitors like the Le Pan II for $280 (dual core processor, Android 3, 8 GB internal, etc), it's not that far.

The Kindle Fire did set a new price point for tablets, $200 becoming affordable and the price to match. Witnessed by the various times the RIM Playbook has been on Sale at $199.

Now, How much would the 10" Fire go for? Without cannibalizing its little brother too. :p

cant be more than $250-280, otherwise they'll have to compare with other tablets on specs

10" Kindle Fire would do fine at $299. The cheapest tablet with a smooth UI and solid build is the Acer Iconia A200. Which is a hell of a deal at $320. With Amazon's brand recognition I can't see how a Fire wouldn't compete just under that price point.
