I hooked my tablet to a port on my computer for charging. It came up with a screen with date, time an a # keyboard on it. I have not been able to get it back to my home page. Also went to safe mode after I made several attempts to get it back to home page. Is there any solution to this?

Is the below image similar to the screen you're seeing?

If yes, then at some point a pin was set on your tablet. You either need to know the pin, or you will have to factory reset the tablet. If you have to factory reset the tablet, make sure you have the username and password of the Google account on the tablet stored in a safe place, because Google's Factory Reset Protection will kick in.

I do not know anything about a pin. I did not set one. Can not do a factory reset. Pushing the power button and the + on the volume does not do anything.

Did anyone besides you use the tablet? If yes, then someone set a pin. If no, then you have an issue that cannot be solved at our level; you'll need to contact the manufacturer and see if they can repair it.
