Google navigation on android phone

Hi all, I have receibed an email from my provider stating I am near my allowance on data, i have been using the google navigation built into my sony ericcson arc. Does anyone know if this app eats data?

Yes if you don't have the maps cached locally it will download them as needed.

Yep, DanU is correct. Next time you are on a WiFi connection you should cache the map files you want, then you don't use data (unless you do Satellite, SteetView or Traffic updates). You can have automatic caching on in settings, so you may already have all the maps you need (unless you are going to a totally new area that is no where near someplace you have already been).

check it by going to Menu->Cache Settings->Automatic Caching

to turn on full caching for trips, etc go to Menu->Labs->Pre-cache map area. The full directions to "pre-cache" are there, but basically go to the area you are going to visit, long press and tap on the bubble.
