GPS driving directions without wifi or data service

Is it possible to install a chunk of maps to get to use the GPS feature without wifi or data service. I tried it once with my phone sim installed but had to remove it so as not to get overcharged.

You just need to install one of the apps that lets you do this. Something like CoPilot would work. Check out CoPilot Live for Android: ALK Technologies see if that is what you are looking for.

I would recommend Ndrive. Copilot maps are pretty bad.

Ndrive works fine, you can download maps and navigate without wifi

I use WisePilot. It's free and so are the maps. I haven't used it too much, so I don't know if the maps are that great. So far so good though!

Yes, you do.

You are not connected all the time though, only for a few seconds at a time when you for example perform searches, view maps or calculate routes.
