Pictures in apps

Hi guy, brand new to Android. In trying to add pictures from my Gallery in both Quick Office Pro HD and Polaris Office Word app, I get the "add pictures" message but on clicking, nothing happens. The screen goes light blue and no picture gallery folder opens.
I am disappointed in this Office Suite - very bare compared to IPad apps!! Thanks for any ideas.

Why are you trying to add images from there? Use the the Gallery app, or add to the web using Picasa and it will sync.

I am putting together a Word document and one of the options is to insert an image from Gallery into the page. It is this option that does not work. All I am asking is is this supposed to work?
