T-Mobile Springboarid Texting Issue

I just bought my T-Mobile Springboard today and I'm loving it. The sales rep said that I can text with this table and wrote down its phone number. But I havent figured out how to do that yet. Every app I've come across so far either generares a new number for the tablet or links it to my phone. How can I use the existing number to send text messages?

I have tried sending a text to my tablet's number with my phone. But my talet showed no notification that a text was received. Nor did I get any sort of error message on my phone. my phone is on t-moile as well.
