Many tablets listed for sale specify they work with an external GPS or a GPS via the USB port. Are there USB GPS devices or are they talking about connecting to something like a Garmin navigator??

It means they don't have internal GPS. An external GPS module looks kind of like a hockey puck with a wire coming out of it. You plug the USB coonector on the other end of the wire into your laptop/tablet and with the right software you can read the data from the GPS module. Some software also works with the GPS output from portable GPS devices. Hope this helps. Rob

another route for some (G-Tab) is to connect to an external GPS via Bluetooth.
