Acer A500 w/ICS not recocnized by PC with XP

My Acer A500 w/ICS is not recocnized by PC with XP. I have downloaded the USB driver 1.06.1500. The A500 is still not recognized by the PC.

I have searched and found not many others with this issue.

Any suggestions?

Some resolve this by installing Windows Media Player 11. You can alternately install the Media Transport Protocol Porting Kit: Download: Media Transfer Protocol Porting Kit - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details. This is only needed for XP, because Vista and 7 already contain MTP support.

I already have Windows Media player 11 installed. To download the MTP kit I have to validate my copy of Windows, but the site tells me that validation tool is no longer supported even though their site sent me to that page! Argghh!
